What is a taxi conventionné?
A taxi conventionné is a licensed taxi that has signed an agreement (convention) with the French health insurance system, the Assurance Maladie (CPAM). When your doctor prescribes medical transport, your journey with an approved taxi can be covered by the health insurance, under the conditions set by the CPAM. Taxi Côte d'Azur has been driving patients in the Alpes-Maritimes since 2006 and knows the routes to the CHU de Nice and to the hospitals and clinics of the Côte d'Azur.
An approved taxi is for patients who can travel sitting down. If your condition requires you to lie down or to be monitored during the journey, your doctor will prescribe an ambulance instead.
How the health insurance cover works
Cover starts with a medical transport prescription (prescription médicale de transport, also called bon de transport), issued by your doctor before the journey, except in an emergency. Some journeys, such as long-distance trips or a series of repeated treatments, also need the prior approval of the health insurance: your doctor will tell you when that is the case.
Depending on your cover (for example a long-term illness recognised as ALD, an accident at work or maternity), you may not have to pay anything upfront: we invoice the health insurance directly (tiers payant). The share that is reimbursed depends on your situation and your complementary health insurance; a small statutory deductible may apply. We tell you what to expect when you book.
What to have with you on the day:
- your medical transport prescription (and the prior approval, if one was required);
- your carte Vitale or your health insurance certificate;
- your complementary health insurance card, if you have one.
Which journeys?
- Appointments and consultations with specialists, at hospital or in town;
- Hospital admissions and discharges, including going home after a stay;
- Dialysis, radiotherapy and chemotherapy sessions, with regular journeys planned in advance;
- Physiotherapy and rehabilitation sessions;
- Medical tests and scans;
- Long-distance medical journeys, within the Alpes-Maritimes and beyond, when your treatment requires it.
Care from door to door
We pick you up at home and take you to the entrance of the department you need. Your driver helps you get in and out of the car and carries your bag. You travel in a clean, comfortable vehicle. For regular treatments we keep the same times from one session to the next, and we plan the return journey with you. A relative may come with you if needed.
